Models

In building a kayak I did a lot of research and decided to build a Skin-on-Frame boat. The original kayaks were built this way, but I decided to forgo the steamed ribs and use frames much like one would find on a folding kayak. In fact one reason for building this is to learn and prepare for building 'folders' in the future.

While doing my research on the web and at the library I started building models to try and understand what I was getting into. The small one (in the image above) was the first, followed by the larger one. Making these models helped me understand the construction problems and measurements.

Finally the day came when it ws time to commit to the 'real thing' »
